How I Practice

I understand how difficult it can be to make the first therapy appointment, so I strive to make the process as easy as possible by addressing concerns callers may have, and respecting any ambivalence they may feel. I typically seek to schedule an initial appointment within the week of my first phone contact with someone. After the initial appointment, if therapy is indicated and the individual wishes to pursue inner work, we can then arrange a regular time to meet that fits his/her schedule.

Because therapy is a relational experience, I want to be fully present to what is happening in the moment. Therefore, I do not take notes during session and strive not to hide behind theory. What I hope evolves is a soul-to-soul encounter where the individual leaves the session a little different from how s/he came in. Sometimes a person will feel lighter after being listened to, as though a burden has been lifted. Other times a person will feel as though his/her thoughts have been stirred up and that s/he needs time to ponder and perhaps reevaluate old assumptions. There is however, no right or wrong way to experience therapy as each individual is different.
